You found this web site, you are thinking of diving Yap Island, that means that you know already, that Yap is famous for it's Manta Rays and we don't need to mention it.
Our resident Manta Ray population can be seen all year, summer or winter.
While during summer the Manta Rays prefer the channels on the island's east side, during winter, their mating season, we normally spot them in latter Miil Channel on a site we call "Landing Pad", a name creation by underwater photographer Tim Rock, who frequently comes to dive in Yap, as Mantas fly in and out.
We are very proud to point out that Yap Island is a Manta Sanctuary - no Manta Ray can be harmed around our beautiful island.
During a typical Manta Dive you will not move a lot - we will bring you to the "Landing Pad" and point out a spot, where you can just hover and have the Rays come to you for some interaction - some days we have up to 20 Mantas around playing with each other (and us of course) - which is just amazing to watch - you should not forget to gear up with your wide angle lens - the rays will come very, very close! By the way Scuba Magazine nominated Yap as the top Manta Dive Destination, along with the World Best Mandarin Dive - by that time, they haven't known our Shark Adventure Dive, which is the best our manager Dieter Kudler says he has seen in over 5500 dives.
