Five traditional navigators from the outer island of Satawal will take you on an authentic catamaran sailing canoe.
This type of ancient marine sailing is truly becoming a lost art, as Yap is one of the few places left in the world with this style of sea-worthy vessel. Utilitarian in nature and artistic in form, the people of Oceania used these catamarans for transportation and sea ceremonials thousands of years ago.
The craftmanship of this canoe is breathtaking...it is hand-carved, crafted together with natural fiber, and decorated with geometric designs painted in natural clay pigments.
Glean from these expert sailors the art and technique of this historical tradition as you navigate the tropical waters of Yap.
