We have deep pride for our island and our resort and it is our duty to insure that you can see why. When you are here-you are family. Welcome home.

WELCOME AT YAP'S BEST RESORT

The Resort

We call it a resort for a reason. Our beautiful, Victorian Styled building is indeed eye catching, but it is only a small part of what we like to call home. We take as much pride in our rooms as we do our grounds, as we do our food, as we do our service, as we do our diving. I guess it would make sense, then, that our resort continues to be nominated for World Travel Awards. Best resort in Micronesia? We think so.

STYLE & SERVICE

Grand Suite

Our grand suites offer the perfect combination of elegance with a warm and soothing ambience. Our suites provide the upmost in relaxation in a room with (several) breathtaking views.

LUSH GARDENS

FULL EQUIPPED & FREE NITROX

Diving on Yap Island

“From big to small, Yap has it all,” said Paul Munizinger (German Tauchen Magazine) of diving in our waters. We tend to agree with him. Mantas, sharks, eagle rays, and mandarins… we could go on but it would be much easier to just say “un-beatable”. So, unbeatable.

DIVE THE BEST

Activities

Yap Pacific Dive Resort offers a variety of activities that are as enjoyable as they are unique. Hike and bike your way through the jungles of paradise, dive the underwater kingdoms, and explore the island for all that it is worth. We aim for your experience to be absolutely priceless.

PRICELESS EXPERIENCES

Our beautiful island

You may have heard about pristine islands in far away places. Where natural beauty is not a description, but a lifestyle. Where getting your feed wet is just the beginning of it. You may have heard there is a place for everyone. Where you can find yourself and lose yourself at he same time. You dreamed this place, wondered if it is real. You were right. flyguam

A new airline, “Fly Guam” is servicing the route Hong Kong – Saipan – Guam. From August 4 on “Fly Guam” will also service Guam - Palau. I had the chance to fly with “Fly Guam” on my way to DRT in Hong Kong and back and I need to say, that it was very enjoyable. The flights were all during the day – we’ve left Guam as well as Hong Kong around noon, the stewardesses are friendly, the food is nice, beer and wine is included in the ticket and the best for me personally – the leg room is big – where I normally have to pay an additional fee for more leg room, with Fly Guam it’s there already  without any additional fee. “Fly Guam” currently connects perfectly from Guam to Yap with about 2.5 hrs layover in Guam. Maybe you want to consider coming to Yap via Hong Kong – click the Fly Guam website and find out more about them. Good news for all Yap fans, Fly Guam is planning to include Yap in their program in the near future – Yap Pacific Dive Resort is excited and will keep you posted.

The evening of June 23, 2011 I lured our president Peter aka Gar away from his TV and asked him to come to an important meeting 7:00 pm sharp. His daughter Roxy, with help of our restaurant staff, had prepared a surprise dinner for Gar and of cause a big cake. And we got clear instructions to deduct a few years on the cake - we all clebrated Gar's 32nd birthday - it was a small party, only for the closest family.

01 - Car Wash

mantabay

Location: About 25 minutes by speedboat in northwestern direction from Yap Pacific Divers. Way leads through German Channel.

Topography: Latter part of the Miil Channel, the channel builds a “bowl” with a sandy bottom. Walls sloping from about 5m/16ft to 30m/98ft. In 25m/82ft and in 30m/90ft two cleaner stations on sandy bottom, with sea fans. Walls hard coral gardens intersected by sandy roads.

Points of interest: The walls overgrown with finger and table corals are home to any kind of reef fish. Close to the mooring areas crocodile and sometimes frog fishes can be found. White tip sharks are sleeping on the sandy patches in the reef. On the sandy bottom nudibranchs, flatworms and other macros. The cleaner stations are playground especially to manta rays and sometimes grey reef sharks. During manta ray mating season, mantas like to be in the “bowl” to get serviced at the cleaner stations and of course to mate.

Current: Current can be almost zero up to relatively strong, depending on moon phase and weather condition.

Route: The boat moors on one of four moorings around the shallower cleaner station. Descent on the rope to about 5m/16ft. Along the reef slope to about 25m/82ft sandy bottom. Along a sand bank between coral blocks and sea fans to the sallower cleaner station. If no manta can be spotted at the sallower cleaner station – crossing the sandy bottom south to the deeper cleaner station at 30m/98ft. Return to reef wall underneath moorings – the boat may change mooring according to current – drift along the wall until boat reached. Here safety stop and ascent along mooring line.

Difficulty: Open Water/Advanced Open Water

Best time: All around the year, high tide

02 - Manta Ridge

ridge

Location: About 25 minutes by speedboat in northwestern direction from Yap Pacific Divers. Way leads through German Channel.

Topography: Manta Ridge is located inside Mill Channel, similar to a dam a reef formation of the shape of two “W’s”, bottom to bottom, is emerging from the sandy bottom in roughly 60-70 ft (18-21 m) depth up to about 20 ft. (6 m). The slopes and small walls building the ridge are hard coral formations partially overgrown with purple and, pink and orange soft corals.

Points of Interest: On the foot of the ridge, especially on the southern part in roughly 60 ft. (18 m) the bottom and the walls are covered with soft corals. The sandy bottom is the sleeping place of white tip sharks and sometimes leopard sharks. Small to midsize coral blocks on the sandy bottom are hiding place to eels, lobsters, crabs and smaller reef fish. Around the two “W’s” schools of jackfish, snappers, bumphead parrot fish and a variety of reef fish. Barracudas, black tip reef sharks and grey reef cruising around the top of the formation. From macro to very big – everything can be found on Manta Ridge. Manta and Eagle Rays like the Ridge to stand on top of it and play with the current.

Current: Depending on moon, tide and weather conditions the current can be from almost zero (Slack Tide) to very strong (especially full and new moon).

The Route: Manta Ridge can be done, depending on the current either as a mooring dive from one of the buoys on the southern and northern part of the Ridge, or as a drift dive. Drift dives usually start on the western (outside) part of the channel and lead inside around the Manta Ridge, exploring walls and slopes. The dive normally starts in about 60-70 ft. (18-21 m), with a slow descent toward the Ridge top, there safety stop close to one of the buoys where the boat is waiting, or drifting along the northern/southern wall and ascend to the surface close to the wall with safety buoy.

Difficulty: Open Water/Advanced Open Water

Best time: All around the year, high tide

03 - Miil Channel

in_progress

Location: About 25 minutes by speedboat in northwestern direction from Yap Pacific Divers. Way leads through German Channel.

Topography: Mill Channel is situated on the western side of the island. It opens from far inside the reef between Fanif, Rumung and Maap to the open ocean. The channels northern corner = Yap Corner, the southern corner = South Pass. The channel starts in it’s mouth at a depth of roughly 131 ft. (40 m) – the sandy bottom gets slowly shallower and shallower towards the Manta Ridge where it reaches a depth of 60-70 ft. (18-21 m). Both sides of the channel are steep walls and slopes dropping from about 15 ft. (5 m) down to the bottom. On the sandy bottom itself is intersected here and there with coral  formations. After the Manta Ridge the depth of the channel is about 60-70 ft. (18-21 m) getting deeper the further you come to Car Wash – the depth past car wash – inside the channel - is about 130 ft. (40 m).

Points of Interest: Mill Channel is especially on incoming current a marvelous dive, very atmospheric – steep walls with hard and soft corals, areas full of whip corals and small sea fans. Coral heads on the sandy bottom where sometimes turtles hide. The sandy bottom is full of sleeping white tip sharks. Grey reef sharks cruising through the channel, sometimes schools of 30 – 50 baby reef sharks. Further Bumphead Parrot Fish, Lobsters, Barracudas, Schools of Jackfish, Turtles, Eagle Rays to name some of the species, which can be found here. And of course Manta Rays, which make their way inside the channel to reach cleaner stations and mating sites.

Current: Depending on moon, tide and weather conditions the current can be from almost zero (Slack Tide) to very strong (especially full and new moon).

The Route: Mill Channel is mainly done as a drift dive. We normally start somewhere close to the mouth of the channel and drift along the southern or northern wall towards Manta Ridge. Starting depth 80-90 ft. (24-27 m) and in multilevel technique slowly ascending until the end of the dive. After a safety stop close to the wall around our guide’s safety buoy ascend to the surface, where the boat already waits. It is during strong current possible to drift from Yap Corner, the mouth of the Channel, all the way to Car Wash, crossing the Manta Ridge.

The corner itself starts in about 15 ft. (5 m) to slope down to 30 ft. (10 m) after a small plateau it slopes to 70ft. (21 m) and finally to 130 ft. (40 m), where the hard coral formation ends on a sandy bottom. The eastern part of Yap Corner is a straight wall, which leads into Mill Channel – depth 130 ft. (40 m) to 98 ft. (30 m). Here in about 98 ft. (30 m) depth a big coral formation on the bottom.

Points of Interest: Aside from Manta Rays coming around the corner, going in to Mill Channel, schools of Barracudas, Grey Reef Sharks, Snappers, Turtles and the possibility to see pelagic sharks.

Current: Depending on moon, tide and weather conditions.

The Route: Drift Dive which starts on the northern wall of the corner in about 70-80 ft. (21-24 m) depth – as multilevel dive leading around the corner into the channel. Ascend after a safety stop close to the wall, around our guide’s safety buoy, or a set buoy inside Mill Channel on the northern side of Mill.
